Sebagai warga kelahiran Jawa Timur ada perasaan menyesal tidak sejak dulu mengunjunginya. Dan ketika godaan untuk menikmati keindahan Ijen itu sulit dibendung, saya memutuskan untuk bersolo backpacker menuju Kawah berbagai mode transportasi menuju Kawah Ijen. Karena lokasinya yang berada di ujung timur pulau Jawa, wisatawan bisa memilih turun di Bandara Ngurah Rai, Bali atau Bandara Juanda, Surabaya kemudian melanjutkan perjalanan ke Banyuwangi. Ada pula pilihan berkereta api, meskipun rutenya cukup melelahkan, Jakarta-Surabaya dilanjutkan dengan Surabaya-Banyuwangi, atau Jakarta-Malang dan kemudian naik kereta api menghitung-hitung budget dan memperhatikan waktu penerbangan, akhirnya saya memilih perjalanan darat via kereta. Sekitar pukul berangkat dari Stasiun Pasar Senen dan pada pukul keesokan harinya saya sudah tiba Stasiun Karangasem, Banyuwangi. Cukup melelahkan tapi antusiasme saya mengalahkan rasa penat. Sudah terbayang di benak, perjalanan mendaki yang akan terbalas oleh panorama yang istirahat cukup di penginapan, sekitar pukul pagi saya sudah terbangun. Saya hanya membawa ransel berisi air minum, topi, sarung tangan, dan syal seraya mengenakan jaket dan sepatu. Saya sudah siap menuju Kawah menuju kaki gunung cukup jauh. Semakin mendekati gunung, hawa semakin dingin dan gigi mulai mengambil syal dalam tas dan mencari sarung tangan untuk membantu menghangatkan tubuh. Selama mendaki saya beberapa kali berpapasan dengan pengunjung yang turun dari puncak setelah bermalam untuk menyaksikan blue fire di kawah. Ada juga pengunjung yang mendaki berombongan. Tidak sedikit di antaranya yang sudah kakek mendaki dengan santai. Inilah enaknya solo traveling, bisa mengatur jadwal dan rute perjalanan sendiri. Jika ingin berfoto, saya bisa berhenti sesuka hati tanpa ada yang banyak pemandangan yang ingin dinikmati secara perlahan. Agak sedih juga mengingat kamera saya yang rusak sehingga hanya mengandalkan kamera di jalur pendakiannya tergolong pemula-menengah, ada beberapa bagian yang berpasir sehingga rentan terpeleset jika tidak berhati-hati. Ada juga bagian pendakian yang sudutnya tajam, lebih dari 30 derajat sehingga cukup menyedot energi. Namun setelah melalui jalur tersebut, jalur setelahnya lebih banyak mendatar. Yes, the owner is helpful, they kept our backpack there for a week while we toured the beaches, thank you for that. But having noisy locals sitting up all night just outside the rooms where the tired tourists are trying to sleep is not okey. Smoking cigarettes and allowing all the smoke to go inside the rooms, allowing them to talk loud all night so people cannot sleep - ITS NOT OKEY AT ALL. The rooms are dark and without any windows at all, so they smell old and mold. No mosquito nets and tons of mosquitos. Dirty, bad smelling bathrooms. Not a good deal at all. Close to the souvenir shop, and in the middle of a big shopping/eating area. The staff was very helpful and can speak English enough not bad. If you look for a fun hostel, this is a very good option. The room on the second floor had a view of the fruit park and it is not directly on a big noisy street. I guess they are used to foreign travellers who stayed in bad places all over Indonesia and who dont complain about anything. They dont put any effort anymoore. Yes, the owner is helpful, they kept our backpack there for a week while we toured the beaches, thank you for that. But having noisy locals sitting up all night just outside the rooms where the tired tourists are trying to sleep is not okey. Smoking cigarettes and allowing all the smoke to go inside the rooms, allowing them to talk loud all night so people cannot sleep - ITS NOT OKEY AT ALL. The rooms are dark and without any windows at all, so they smell old and mold. No mosquito nets and tons of mosquitos. Dirty, bad smelling bathrooms. Not a good deal at all. The co-owner is a wonderful lady that went absolutely above and beyond to get me a driver to Alas Purwo national park. She spent all morning calling and texting just for me. She answered all my questions. I will never forget her help The other staff is all lovely too, and I think it's amazing that this place is women-led! I think you can feel it in the vibe of the hostel. The other guests at the time were all nice and open people, many solo travellers and I had some unexpected good conversations. I slept in the new dorm room, and I loved it. No bunk beds but each their own matress on the floor, very private with curtains around, soft matress and I think it slept only four. Location is nice because there are a lot of eating/shopping options around! Close to the souvenir shop, and in the middle of a big shopping/eating area. The staff was very helpful and can speak English enough not bad. It is next to a curry restaurant that serves great curries. The rooms are great. We had a dormitory room and it was beautiful and very clean. There is a great common area with food and drinks. If you look for a fun hostel, this is a very good option. The room on the second floor had a view of the fruit park and it is not directly on a big noisy street. The hostel has a cheap tour shared tour to Ijen Crater and many kinds of private tour to Banyuwangi's tourist destination, with the good price and excellent service.
